1. Empower young people at risk of serious offending, to take responsibility for their actions, and turn their lives around

2. Youths that meet the particular criteria are referred to TYLA via the Police Youth Aid Officer.Youths can be identified from age 10 when they are in the final year of primary school up until the end of Intermediate school at age 13 to participate in TYLA. The programme is available for up to  five years with the aim to support the youth towards graduation at NCEA Level 1.

3. Each social worker will have a caseload of no more than 12-15 youths so that they can adequately support the individuals and their families. In addition, the TYLA team has the added value of specialised youth workers who have the ability to relate to young people 'at risk' by facilitate targeted group work, values camps, sporting and other development programme activities.

4. There are four fundamental components of the TYLA programme that work in harmony to ensure the needs of the youth and family are fulfilled.

The programme is designed to provide the tools and skills necessary for the individuals to take responsibility for their own actions and make good choices in life.

Furthermore, we promote the families to take an active role in their children lives and work with them to support them to make good choices. TYLA advocates and works collaboratively with community agencies to support these families therefore ensuring the best outcomes.

3. Student Selection

Once a child has been identified as a possible candidate, the family is contacted to gain all necessary approvals.

4. Programme Partner Selection

TYLA has a rigorous identification assessment and evaluation process to help identify preferred partners. Based on our four fundamental building blocks, they deliver complete and comprehensive programmes for ‘at risk’ groups. READ MORE

TYLA’s monitoring and feedback system is considered to be one of the most comprehensive measures for truly assessing progress with 'at risk' youth.
