Kayaking at the Te Atatu Peninsula
Whether it was abseiling, painting, building bridges with ropes and sticks or hitting the exercise machines at the K Rd Club Physical Gym the TYLA young people gave it a go and pushed themselves out of their comfort zones at the Summer Holiday Programme.
For two weeks, around 20 young people and four staff got out into the outdoors and hit the ground running with the summer holiday programme. Each day provided a new set of experiences for the young people in activities and challenges set by the TYLA team. Some days included cooking over a camp fire and the next kayaking. Another day the young people engaged with their creative side and painted the TYLA values and then undertook a confidence courses as a team. Each week also included a day or two of fun with a visit to Waiwera Hot Pools and Luging in Silverdale.
Developing relationships is fundamental to this programme. It assists the TYLA staff in building right relationships with the young people outlining TYLAs expectations and keeping the Young People; fit, active and off the streets.
