History

TYLA began over 14 years ago in Avondale after a request to Rotary Club of Auckland from a police officer for funding to assist some young offenders in the community. With the support of the Rotarians, some finances and a keen police officer willing to provide programme activities, TYLA in its infancy was born.

Over the years TYLA has developed from a weekend programme of activities right through to a long term early intervention youth project where young people are guided and supported by social and youth workers in turning around their lives right through until they leave school and move into further training or a job.

A structure and framework has been developed so consistency and quality standards are assured. Building Blocks are the key directives for the content of each youth project.
